Manila: The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) has placed all its ports nationwide under 'full alert' to cater to the over 1.6 million passengers expected during Undas (All Saints' Day) and to monitor Super Typhoon Leon (international name Kong-rey). PPA spokesperson Eunice Samonte on Friday said around 200,000 passengers are expected to flock to PPA ports within the day alone for the yearly Undas exodus. Some of the busiest ports, she said, will be the ports of Panay, Batangas, Mindoro, Negros Oriental, and Bohol. To date, she said there are no stranded passengers in any PPA ports, but some domestic sea trips were canceled due to inclement weather. As of noon, these canceled trips include all fast craft trips from Port Management (PMO) Mindoro to Batangas, the trip of MV Virgen de Peñafrancia Tres Reyes in PMO Bicol, and the trip of MV Rosa-Lito Express in PMO Western Leyte/Biliran. On the other hand, she said PPA ports remain on full alert to address the damage caused by tropical storm Kristine and are m onitoring Leon. In an advisory address to all PPA port managers, the office of the PPA Assistant General Manager for Operations advised all PMOs to implement the 'Revised Guidelines and Standard Operating Procedures in the Port During Inclement Weather.' It also required PMOs to submit a port situational report regularly and coordinate with concerned national and local government agencies to assist stranded passengers and RoRo vessels. In its 2 p.m. tropical cyclone bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration said Leon is affecting northern Luzon, with Batanes currently under tropical cyclone wind signal (TCWS) No. 4 and the eastern portion of Babuyan Islands and the northeastern portion of mainland Cagayan at TCWS No. 3.
