Batangas: The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) is anticipating approximately 2.2 million passengers to travel via seaports this All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days, known as Undas, on November 1 and 2. This figure surpasses last year’s 1.9 million travelers. PPA General Manager Jay Santiago, during an inspection at Batangas Port, attributed the projected rise in passengers to the Malaca±ang proclamation that declared October 31, 2025, a special non-working day, allowing Filipinos an extended weekend.
According to Philippines News Agency, Santiago emphasized the PPA’s commitment to ensuring safe, smooth, and convenient travel for passengers during the holiday period. The busiest PPA ports currently include Iloilo and Jordan Ports in Iloilo, Batangas Port, Calapan Port in Oriental Mindoro, and Bredco Port in Bacolod City.
The Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Undas 2025 will see the PPA’s Port Management Offices (PMO) deploying full manpower to maintain uninterrupted operations. Santiago also announced the suspension of all personnel leaves during this period as part of the agency’s heightened preparations.
To prioritize passenger safety, the PPA is collaborating with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP)-Maritime Group (MG). The PPA has set up Malasakit Help Desks at ports, which will operate 24/7 to address passenger needs and inquiries promptly.
Santiago advised the public to arrive at ports early due to the anticipated passenger surge and to purchase tickets only from legitimate shipping line outlets to prevent scams. He also urged passengers to avoid bringing prohibited items such as sharp objects, explosives, and flammable liquids to minimize delays during x-ray scanner inspections.
Additionally, Santiago reiterated the Department of Health’s (DOH) report on increasing cases of influenza-like illnesses and advised travelers to stay healthy by washing hands regularly, getting enough rest, and eating a balanced diet.
The inspection at Batangas Port was led by acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, who directed the PPA, PCG, and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) to ensure comfortable journeys for all maritime passengers.
