Manila:President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has declared 2027 as the Golden Jubilee Year of the Philippine Institute for Development Studies (PIDS) through Proclamation 1448.

According to Philippines News Agency, the proclamation, signed on September 18, acknowledges the significant contributions of PIDS in the areas of evidence-based policymaking, socioeconomic planning, policy evaluation, and research dissemination over the past fifty years.

All national government agencies, including government-owned or controlled corporations, as well as state universities and colleges, are instructed to support the implementation of activities related to this proclamation. Additionally, local government units, non-government organizations, and the private sector are encouraged to participate in the celebration.

PIDS will officially celebrate its 50th anniversary on September 26, 2027. Since its establishment, PIDS has been instrumental in providing policy-oriented research and analysis on economic, social, and development issues, aiding in evidence-based policymaking and supporting national development policies and programs.

The institution was created under Presidential Decree 1201, operating as a non-stock, non-profit government corporation linked to the then-National Economic and Development Authority, now known as the Department of Economy, Planning and Development. PIDS is tasked with developing a comprehensive and integrated research program to support national development plans and policies.

PIDS also plays a crucial role as a connecting entity between the government and research institutions, facilitating and conducting research for the government, collaborating with domestic research entities, and maintaining a repository of economic research information.
