MANILA: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has enacted several laws to convert three school extensions in the Zamboanga Peninsula into independent institutions and establish a new school in Davao Oriental. According to Philippines News Agency, copies of Republic Acts (RAs) 12057, 12058, 12059, and 12060 were signed by Marcos and made public recently. RA 12057 facilitates the separation of the Paulino Dari National High School (PDNHS)-Balong-balong Extension in Pitogo, Zamboanga Del Sur, which will now operate independently as Balong-balong National High School. RA 12058 converts the Bacungan National High School-Sipakong Extension in Leon B. Postigo, Zamboanga Del Norte into Sipakong National High School. Similarly, RA 12059 provides for the independence of Lapuyan NHS-Sampang Extension in Lapuyan, Zamboanga Del Sur, renaming it Pampang NHS. The in itial funding required for these changes will come from the current year budget allocations of the former institutions. Future operational costs will be covered under the annual General Appropriations Act (GAA). In addition to these changes in the Zamboanga Peninsula, RA 12060 establishes Tiblawan National High School in Generoso, Davao Oriental. Funding for this new school will be incorporated into the national budget each year. The Secretary of the Department of Education is tasked with including the operationalization of these schools in the department's program. Within 90 days from the approval of these Acts, the Secretary is required to develop rules and regulations to implement the provisions of these laws. These regulations will outline the schools' organization, administration, and management in alignment with existing education laws such as RA 9155 and RA 10533. These Republic Acts will be effective 15 days following their publication in the Official Gazette or a newspaper with general circulation .
