Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called on government agencies to continue their efforts in providing employment opportunities for Filipinos. During his 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA), he specifically urged the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to assist the public, especially college students, in preparing for employment.
According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos emphasized the importance of collaboration among government bodies, including the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Department of Tourism (DOT), to address the issue of unemployment. He highlighted that these agencies will focus on creating opportunities for the remaining 4 percent of the workforce that is currently unemployed.
The DOLE's Government Internship Program (GIP) aims to provide young Filipinos with practical work experience within government agencies. Meanwhile, the DSWD supports Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiaries by organizing job fairs and other initiatives to enhance employment opportunities.
President Marcos assured the public that efforts to provide jobs for unemployed Filipinos will continue. Additionally, he mentioned the government's initiatives to support individuals in starting their own businesses by offering free training and capital.
He also stated that the government aims to assist nearly two and a half million poor families in establishing small businesses. The President reiterated the commitment to providing investment to entrepreneurs to start microenterprises at low interest rates without collateral, along with capital and protection for intellectual property.
