Bagulin: A price freeze is in effect in Bagulin, La Union, following the declaration of a state of calamity due to a dengue outbreak, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) - Ilocos Region confirmed on Tuesday. Retailers are required to maintain the prices of basic necessities at their prevailing levels from the time the outbreak was officially declared.

According to Philippines News Agency, 'This ensures that prices of basic necessities remain stable while the government responds to the public health emergency,' DTI-La Union Consumer Protection Division chief Marissa Nonesa said at a virtual conference. A report from the Provincial Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit reported 1,005 cases of dengue, with four deaths from January to July. Bagulin accounted for 251 cases.

The DTI, in coordination with local government units and other concerned agencies, intensified market monitoring and inspections to ensure compliance. Authorities warned that businesses found violating the price freeze may face administrative and legal sanctions. Officials also encouraged consumers to report cases of overpricing, hoarding, profiteering or other unfair trade practices.

The local government unit declared a state of calamity due to the dengue outbreak on July 11. This remains in effect until July 26 or until the outbreak is managed. Health authorities urge the public to help prevent the spread of dengue by eliminating mosquito breeding sites, maintaining clean surroundings, using protective measures against mosquito bites and seeking immediate medical attention if symptoms develop.
