Manila: The public and private sectors are closely supporting the growth of Filipino micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSME), the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) assured on Saturday as it marks the National MSME Month. Speaking at the GoNegosyo-led MSME Summit 2026 at SM Mall of Asia Music Hall in Pasay City, DTI Secretary Cristina Roque said the Marcos administration continues to partner with stakeholders to get government programs closer to MSMEs across the country.
According to Philippines News Agency, Roque emphasized that through financing schemes, training, and export support, the government is more than ready to help entrepreneurs scale up their businesses. She highlighted the collaboration with GoNegosyo, noting, 'DTI works very closely with GoNegosyo kasi marami ilang natutulungan talaga, lalo na sa mentoring and all other opportunities na mayroon sila (because they have been helping so many businesses, especially through mentoring and other opportunities that they offer).' Roque added that their joint efforts aim to strengthen the nationwide implementation of DTI programs.
On the government's part, Roque mentioned that DTI's Small Business Corp. set up PHP12.9 billion in loan disbursements for MSMEs this year. The loans offer low interest rates and flexible terms, allowing up to PHP5 million without collateral, and come with a one-year grace period on principal and interest payments.
The MSME Summit 2026 gathered some of the country's top business leaders, entrepreneurs, innovators, and industry experts to help attending MSME owners grow their businesses. It featured free mentoring for attendees and learning sessions on unlocking opportunities overseas through cross-border trade and e-commerce, content creation, and building capabilities amid the emergence of artificial intelligence.
GoNegosyo also recognized outstanding MSMEs that successfully grew their businesses through innovation and impacted their communities. The summit was held in partnership with DTI, MSME Development Council, and ASEAN Business Advisory Council Philippines under the theme 'Empowering MSMEs for ASEAN Prosperity.'
