Siargao: The Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 in the Caraga Region has confirmed that the peace and order situation on Siargao Island remains stable and secure, countering recent social media reports suggesting otherwise.

According to Philippines News Agency, the PRO-13 addressed recent social media posts that highlighted localized issues, which the police clarified do not represent the overall security status of the popular tourist destination. Major Jennifer Ometer, PRO-13's information chief, stated in an interview that the incidents mentioned in the posts were isolated and do not reflect the broader situation on the island. She assured that these specific cases have already been addressed by the police and the respective local government units (LGUs).

To ensure continued stability amid a rising number of local and international visitors, PRO-13 has deployed additional personnel trained as Tourist-Oriented Police for Community Order and Protection. Furthermore, the PRO-13 has enhanced police mobility and response capabilities by providing three personnel carrier vehicles to the Surigao del Norte Police.

Brig. Gen. Marcial Mariano Magistrado IV, regional police director, emphasized that all tourists, regardless of nationality, race, or background, deserve equal treatment, respect, and the opportunity to safely enjoy Siargao Island. He stressed that inclusivity and fairness are vital to maintaining a welcoming environment for all visitors.

The regional office is collaborating with the Department of Tourism to implement the Tourist Code of Conduct, an advocacy program piloted in Siargao. This program promotes respectful and culturally sensitive tourism, underscoring the shared responsibility of both tourists and locals in preserving the island's integrity, traditions, and peaceful environment.

Magistrado also urged the public to remain discerning of unverified information and to support initiatives that encourage unity and order.
