Bangued: The police and the local government of this capital town are taking steps to enhance peace and order by installing additional closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras and procuring two-way radios and motorcycles.
According to Philippines News Agency, Brig. Gen. David Peredo, the director of the Police Regional Office in the Cordillera Administrative Region (PROCAR), emphasized the importance of two-way radios for quick communication with field patrollers to ensure immediate response. Peredo highlighted the practicality of motorcycles over four-wheeled vehicles, particularly in areas with narrow roads and heavy traffic, facilitating better maneuverability.
Peredo noted the formation of a tactical motorcycle unit (TMU) designed for areas where motorcycles are more effective than four-wheel vehicles. He praised the Bangued Municipal Police Station for achieving a two-minute response time to emergencies using two-way radios and motorcycles. This swift response recently led to the arrest of a shooting incident suspect in Brgy. Zone 1 and the confiscation of a .45 caliber firearm on July 27, 2025.
The installation of CCTV cameras has been an integral part of maintaining peace and order, especially during elections. These cameras were strategically placed in crime-prone and high-risk areas of Abra, aiding in immediate police response and investigations. Brig. Gen. Peredo mentioned that the provincial government, led by acting governor Russel Bragas, has pledged support for this initiative, recognizing its potential as an effective anti-criminality measure. These enhancements are also being considered for implementation in other regions.
