Manila: The local bourse's primary index concluded the week with minimal changes as investors adopted a wait-and-see approach regarding market direction. Meanwhile, the Philippine peso remained stable against the US dollar.
According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) experienced a marginal rise of 0.02 percent, settling at 6,072.24 points. However, the All Shares index saw a slight decline of 0.02 percent to 3,330.35 points. Among the sectoral gauges, Financials increased by 1.06 percent, Property by 0.87 percent, and Holding Firms by 0.72 percent. Conversely, Mining and Oil decreased by 2.78 percent, Services by 1.06 percent, and Industrial by 0.29 percent.
Trading volume amounted to 808.34 million shares, with a total value of PHP8.52 billion. In terms of market breadth, advancers outnumbered decliners at 97 to 80, with 66 shares remaining unchanged.
Luis Limlingan, Regina Capital Development Corporation head of sales, commented, "The PSEi ended nearly unchanged for the week as investors waited for fresh catalysts to provide market direction. Trading remained cautious and thin as participants assessed the global AI sector sell-off alongside domestic economic developments." He further noted that market sentiment was mixed, with investors closely monitoring corporate updates and key macroeconomic indicators.
On the foreign exchange front, the local currency concluded the day flat at 61.29 against the US dollar. It commenced trading at 61.3, an improvement from the previous session's opening of 61.53. The peso traded within a range of 61.36 to 61.2, resulting in an average of 61.28 for the day. The trading volume reached USD2.05 billion, a notable increase from the previous day's USD1.63 billion.
