MANILA: The local bourse shed on Tuesday's trading on rising Treasury yields, while the Philippine peso closed sideways. The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) closed 1.41 percent lower at 7,239.98, with All Shares, likewise, going down by 1.46 percent to 3,977.31. All counters ended in the red with the biggest shedding coming from the Property sector, down by 2.29 percent. This is followed by Financials, down by 1.55 percent; Services, down by 1.93 percent; Mining and Oil, down by 0.99 percent; Holding Firms, down by 0.93 percent; and Industrial, down by 0.75 percent. 'The bourse was weighed by the weakness of the local currency against the US Dollar and the rise in local treasury yields. Investors are also taking a cautious stance amid the uncertainties caused by the upcoming US elections,' Philstock Financials research manager Japhet Tantiangco said. 'Foreign investors were net sellers for the day adding to the market's decline. Net foreign selling stood at PHP933.59 million,' he added. Tantiangco said the local bourse actively traded this day with net value turnover of PHP5.61 billion, higher than the year-to-date average of PHP5.17 billion. Losers outpaced winners at 147 to 55, leaving 41 counters unchanged. Meanwhile, the peso barely moved, closing at 58.28 to a US dollar from a 58.23 closing on Monday. It opened the day strong at 58.20 from last day's kick-off at 58.40, before trading between 58.13 and 58.34 to a dollar, averaging at 58.23 to the greenback.
