Iligan city: A pursuit operation is underway to apprehend the suspects linked to the killing of a police officer in Iligan City on Sunday night. In a statement on Monday, the Iligan City Police Office (ICPO) said intelligence and operational units were fielded to arrest the assailants who gunned down Chief Master Sergeant Mark Hermoso in Barangay Tipanoy.

According to Philippines News Agency, ICPO Director Col. Jerry Tambis urged the public to remain calm and to cooperate with authorities as they continue efforts to ensure peace and order in the city. He extended condolences to the bereaved family of Hermoso.

Tambis stated that police investigators promptly processed the crime scene and recovered evidence to solve Hermoso's death, who was part of the Iligan City Mobile Force. Initial investigation revealed that Hermoso was attending a wake when one of the assailants appeared and fired multiple shots, subsequently fleeing toward an unknown direction.
