Manila: The Quezon City government said it would give PHP10 million in assistance to nine local government units (LGUs) in the Bicol region that were devastated by Severe Tropical Storm Kristine (international name Trami) last week. In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Vice Mayor Gian Sotto said the City Council approved Resolution No. SP-9833 S-2024, authorizing Mayor Joy Belmonte to extend financial assistance and donate P10 million to severely affected municipalities city in the region. 'Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has caused extensive damage across the Province of Camarines Sur and Albay, affecting numerous municipalities, displacing residents, and significantly impacting local infrastructure and livelihoods,' the resolution said. The towns of Bato, Nabua, Bula, Buhi, Pili, and Tinambac in Camarines Sur province are among the towns identified by the QC government. A total of 106,124 families or 498,040 individuals from these areas had been affected by 'Kristine'. Each town will receive PHP1 million in aid. Iriga City, also in Camarines Sur, which lodged the most number of affected families at 25,528 or 119,860 individuals, will receive PHP2 million. In the province of Albay, the identified municipalities include Libon and Guinobatan, with 34,806 families, or 146,46 individuals affected. These towns will also receive PHP1 million each. The funds would be sourced from the city's accumulated Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (LDRRM) trust fund. The number of reported deaths due to the combined effects of 'Kristine' and Super Typhoon Leon (international name: Kong-rey) has climbed to 145, latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Wednesday.
