Manila: The Quezon City government is offering residents and business owners planning to install rooftop solar panels free expert technical guidance through its Helpline 122, to help consumers lower their electricity costs while making the shift to clean energy.
According to Philippines News Agency, QC Mayor Joy Belmonte announced in a news release that licensed electrical engineers from the QC Engineering Department will provide technical guidance via Helpline 122. Mayor Belmonte emphasized the city's potential to harness solar energy and recognized the uncertainty many residents and business owners face in starting the installation process. The helpline aims to guide them, answer technical questions, and help avoid fraudulent or unlicensed installers.
The city government highlighted that a single call to 122 can provide property owners, including businesses, with expert advice on selecting the appropriate system size based on electricity consumption, meeting technical requirements for safe and efficient installation, identifying accredited solar service providers listed by the Department of Energy (DOE), and securing necessary permits through the city's Department of the Building Official.
Mayor Belmonte noted that this initiative is part of the city government's renewable energy program, which has already seen solar panels installed in seven City Hall buildings, three city government hospitals, and 25 public schools. From January to June 2026, these installations have resulted in over PHP8 million in electricity savings, allowing the QC government to redirect resources to essential public services while reducing its carbon footprint.
The city government also mentioned that, according to its Solar Penetration and Potential Market Demand in Buildings Dashboard, Quezon City's estimated electricity consumption in 2025 is 5,787 gigawatt-hours (GWh). If all viable rooftops were equipped with solar panels, they could generate an estimated 16,098.28 GWh of electricity, nearly three times the city's projected annual demand.
A study by Thinking Machines Lab, commissioned by C40 Cities and cited by the city, estimated that widespread rooftop solar adoption across QC could result in savings of up to PHP40.65 billion by 2035. Mayor Belmonte urged residents and business owners to utilize QC Helpline 122 for trusted technical guidance, to understand installation and permitting requirements, and to make informed decisions to reduce electricity costs.
