Que and Corpus Share Lead in ICTSI Caliraya Springs Championship First Round

Manila: Veteran golfer Angelo Que and promising rookie Carl Corpus both shot impressive six-under 66s, sharing the lead after the first round of the ICTSI Caliraya Springs Championship. The tournament, held in Cavinti, Laguna, saw both players showcasing their skills and setting a high bar for the competition.

According to Philippines News Agency, Que, a seasoned player with three Asian Tour titles under his belt, demonstrated his experience with six birdies against two bogeys on the back nine. Reflecting on his performance, Que said, "My start was really good. I hit precise wedge shots, and the putts were mostly inside eight feet." Despite facing challenges on the front nine, Que remained satisfied with his overall performance, adding, "I'm hitting it well, feeling healthy, and mentally, I'm ready."

On the other hand, Corpus, who recently secured a breakthrough victory on the Asian Development Tour in Morocco, delivered a spectacular performance. Notably, he birdied three of his last four holes at the back and achieved an eagle on the par-4 second from 78 yards using a 58-degree wedge. Corpus, 23, remarked, "I knew I hit a good one. I thought it would be close, suddenly the ball disappeared. It doesn't happen often so it was a really good feeling."

Trailing Que and Corpus by two shots is a group of competitors including Jay Bayron, Jerson Balasabas, Kristoffer Arevalo, Justin Quiban, Russell Bautista, and Fidel Concepcion, each posting a score of 68. Meanwhile, Josh Jorge, Jeffren Lumbo, Rupert Zaragosa, and Jhonnel Ababa are tied at ninth with 69s, and a cluster of players, including Keanu Jahns and amateur Jet Hernandez, follow closely with scores of 70.
