Quezon provincial employees told to cut power consumption

LUCENA CITY: Quezon Provincial Administrator Manny Butardo has called on all employees to adopt cost-cutting measures on electricity consumption in all offices of the provincial government.

In a phone interview on Saturday, Butardo said as of December, the provincial government’s electricity bill has reached PHP94 million, overshooting its budget of PHP70 million for the whole year by PHP24 million.

For 2023, the provincial government’s allocation for electricity is PHP80 million.

“That's why we are requesting all the employees to help the government by employing energy cost-cutting measures,” he added.

Butardo said he asked his co-workers in the provincial government to cut down on the use of air conditioning units in all offices, proposing it should be turned on starting at 9 a.m. to noontime, then from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to save three hours of energy consumption.

He proposed to assign an energy conservation officer in every office to make an inventory and monitor power-saving measures, noting that savings on electricity could be added to the package of benefits for the employees at the end of the year.
