Manila: The three rail lines in the National Capital Region have extended their operating schedules over the holiday season. In a statement Thursday, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista said the schedule adjustments aim to accommodate more commuters preparing for the Christmas and New Year celebrations. "On select days, our trains will operate earlier in the morning and later into the night to offer greater convenience to passengers during the holiday season," Bautista said. The schedule adjustments will also allow rail employees to spend more time with their families during the holidays. According to Philippines News Agency, from Dec. 16 to 24 and on Dec. 31, the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) will have its first trip depart from North Avenue Station at 4:30 a.m. The MRT-3 will also extend its closing hours from Dec. 16 to 23, with the last train departing North Avenue at 10:34 p.m. and Taft Avenue at 11:08 p.m. On the other hand, the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1) will have their earliest first trips on Dec. 20, 23, 26, and 27 at 4:30 a.m. The LRT-1 will also extend its closing time on Dec. 20 and 23, with the last train departing Dr. Santos Station at 10:30 p.m. and Fernando Poe Jr. Station at 10:45 p.m. Lastly, the Light Rail Transit Line 2 (LRT-2) will have its first train depart at 5 a.m. on Dec. 17 to 24 and 31. The LRT-2 will implement regular operating hours from Dec. 25 to 30 and from Jan. 1 onwards. The MRT-3 runs from North Avenue to Taft Avenue, the LRT-1 from Dr. Santos Station (formerly Sucat) to the FPJ Station in Quezon City, and the LRT-2 from Antipolo to Recto.
