Rains Expected to Continue in Parts of the Philippines Due to Weather Systems

Manila: Several areas in the Philippines are set to continue experiencing rains, as reported by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday.

According to Philippines News Agency, two prevailing weather systems are responsible for the ongoing weather conditions affecting different regions.

The shear line is expected to cause scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms across Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar. Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon, locally known as "amihan," is anticipated to bring rain to Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, and Quezon. These weather conditions could lead to moderate to heavy rains, raising the risk of flash floods or landslides in the affected areas.

PAGASA also noted that the northeast monsoon will extend its influence to Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon, resulting in additional rainfall. Other parts of the country will experience isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. In Northern Luzon and the eastern sections of Central and Southern Luzon, moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough coastal waters are expected, while other areas will see light to moderate winds and slight to moderate seas.

The weather bureau also highlighted the presence of a low pressure area (LPA) located 705 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas as of 3 a.m. This system has a high potential to develop into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. The LPA is forecast to bring heavy rains to Northern Samar and Eastern Samar today.
