Antique: A religious group holding its 78th Annual General Assembly in this province is committed to becoming advocates against violence against women. Dr. Yolanda Garcesa, president of the Antique chapter of the Philippine Women Missionary Union of the Convention Baptist (PWMUCB), said their national president, lawyer Sonya Verdeflor, urged them to champion the campaign to protect women from any form of violence.
According to Philippines News Agency, Garcesa mentioned in an interview that their national president encouraged them to become advocates to create an impact in the community. She stated that they plan to develop initiatives and programs to further assist women in the province. The group also intends to conduct an information drive to raise awareness about the issue.
Garcesa emphasized that they will become the voice for women against violence. She highlighted that women should be cared for and loved in a Christian manner, rather than being viewed solely as assets.
The assembly, held from October 15-17 in Antique, gathered approximately 378 members from 12 PWMUCB unions across the country. In addition to creative presentations, attendees engaged in biblical theological reflections and discussions on caring for the elderly, using foods as medicines, and exhibiting qualities such as love, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, and self-control while being in step with the Holy Spirit daily.
