CAPIZ: A remnant member of a dismantled communist terrorist group was killed during a confrontation with government troops in Sitio Naatip, Barangay Lahug, Tapaz, Capiz, over the weekend. The encounter, which lasted for 30 minutes, resulted from reports by the local population regarding the presence of armed rebels in the area.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 3rd Division Public Affairs Office of the 3rd Infantry Division (3ID) identified the deceased as a member of the Regional Sentro De Gravidad and Central Front Dismantled Komiteng Rehiyon - Panay. The Philippine Army's 12th Infantry Battalion recovered one rifle and five backpacks from the site of the encounter.
Major Gen. Marion Sison, commander of the 3ID, stated that the swift action by the troops underscores the Army's ongoing dedication to maintaining the freedom and security of residents in Western and Central Visayas. He also called on locals to remain vigilant and to report any suspicious activities that could threaten their safety, particularly during the holiday season.
