Remolino, Burgos Gear Up for SEA Games with Strong Performances in Cebu

Cebu: Kim Andrew Remolino and Erika Nicole Burgos are aiming to be in peak condition as they vie for spots on the national triathlon team for the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand this December.

According to Philippines News Agency, both athletes have demonstrated their prowess by securing significant victories at the Sunrise Sprint Lapu-Lapu event held in Cebu last Sunday.

At the 2023 Cambodia SEA Games, Remolino clinched the aquathlon silver and triathlon bronze medals, while Burgos was part of the mixed relay team that won the gold medal alongside teammates Kira Ellis, Matthew Hermosa, and Inaki Lorbes. Demonstrating their continuing dominance, Remolino clocked 1:10:03 to retain the men's overall title in a race that included a 750-meter swim, a 20-kilometer bike ride, and a 5-kilometer run. Representing Talisay Luigi Triathlon Group-Go for Gold, Remolino attributed his victory to improved fitness levels, particularly in the biking segment, which allowed him to control his pace effectively.

Remolino excelled in the swim leg with a time of 9:12, maintained a steady pace during the bike leg with 39:28, and registered the best time of 17:31 in the run. He also topped the 25-29 age group category. Following him were Matthew Hermosa with a time of 1:10:34 and Renz Corbin at 1:11:41.

Meanwhile, Burgos, competing for the Sant© Barley team, secured the women's title with a time of 1:20:31. Despite experiencing jetlag, the 23-year-old Burgos managed to clinch the 20-24 age group championship. Eunice Caluya, finishing second overall with a time of 1:22:37, captured the 16-19 title, while Cebuana Nicole Marie del Rosario came third with a time of 1:27:23.

Burgos, a sports science graduate from the University of the Philippines-Diliman, was also the runner-up at the Century Tuna IRONMAN 70.3 Subic Bay in Zambales last June 15. The event also saw several other winners across different age-group divisions, reinforcing the competitive spirit and talent within the triathlon community.
