Manila: Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Tuesday heaped praises on the Philippine National Police (PNP) for its improved professionalism, citing survey results showing that the police force now enjoys its highest public trust rating.

According to Philippines News Agency, Remulla highlighted in a Palace press briefing that the PNP's reform initiatives have contributed to the agency's improved standing, with its trust score reaching 80 percent based on the latest OCTA Research survey. He emphasized the impact of reforming processes, guidelines, and codes of behavior within the PNP, leading to this unprecedented level of trust.

Remulla addressed the issue of isolated cases involving fugitives Zaldy Co, Harry Roque, and Bantag, stating that these do not reflect the overall performance of the PNP. He noted significant reductions in focus crimes, index crimes, and smuggling activities. The Secretary pointed out that discipline and morale within the PNP are at their highest levels.

He further affirmed that the police force has become more professional, underscoring the necessity of continued reforms to sustain public confidence. He stated that the public can now see the major accomplishments of the PNP, highlighting the enhanced professionalism within the force.

The PNP has undergone a series of reforms in recent years aimed at improving accountability, discipline, and public service. These initiatives have included revamping standard operating procedures, strengthening internal discipline, and instituting codes of conduct for personnel.
