Rescued Green Sea Turtle Safely Returns to Ocean in Surigao del Sur

Carrascal: A rescued female Green Sea Turtle was released back to sea in Carrascal, Surigao del Sur after being found entangled in fishing gear.

According to Philippines News Agency, the local government unit (LGU) of Carrascal reported that the marine turtle was discovered by a deputized fish warden, known locally as Bantay Dagat, during a routine patrol along the coastline.

The Municipal Agriculture Office was promptly informed, which led to coordination with the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office in Cantilan. Authorities acted swiftly to care for the turtle, ensuring its health was not compromised before its release.

The turtle was treated, documented, and tagged before being returned to the ocean at Carrascal Baywalk in Barangay Baybay. The Carrascal LGU emphasized the importance of reporting any trapped or stranded marine animals to ensure they receive the necessary care and protection.

The LGU also reminded the community of Carrascal's rich marine biodiversity and urged residents to practice responsible fishing to protect marine life and ocean ecosystems.
