‘Resign-All’ Order to Provide Gomez Authority to Select PCO Staff

Manila: The directive for all officials of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) to resign from their respective posts will give Acting Secretary Dave Gomez a free hand to choose his staff, Malaca±ang announced Wednesday. In a radio interview, PCO Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro mentioned she would submit her courtesy resignation within the day.

According to Philippines News Agency, Gomez confirmed that he instructed all incumbent PCO undersecretaries, assistant secretaries, and directors, alongside heads and other presidential appointees of the agency's attached agencies, to tender their unqualified courtesy resignations no later than July 18. Gomez stated that the issuance of the memorandum is a standard transition practice, occurring while the performance review is underway.

Based on the memorandum issued by Gomez on Monday, all PCO officials are expected to continue reporting for work and performing their usual duties and responsibilities until any action is taken on their courtesy resignations. The directive aims to provide Gomez the flexibility to select his team and ensure he is familiar with individuals who can effectively serve the public.

When questioned about any directives to soften her responses to media queries during Palace press briefings, Castro mentioned her gentle manner in answering questions. She emphasized her commitment to addressing instances of misinformation, stating her dedication to presenting the truth and countering false information.
