Antique: An association of returning overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Antique has been awarded a PHP400,000 grant to support its mushroom production project, aiming to address the rising demand for mushrooms in the local market.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Federation of OFW Family Circle Sibalom, Inc., led by president Janet Fadullan, consists of members from 42 village associations, primarily composed of women. The group plans to produce chicharon or crispy mushroom and other mushroom-based products to create a sustainable source of livelihood. Fadullan noted the project's significance, stating, "We are embarking on the mushroom industry because of the lack of supply in the local markets and the malls. Our members will get a share of the income."

The grant, awarded through the Legarda Micro Small and Medium Excellence Award, will be utilized to purchase essential equipment such as shredding, incubator, bagging, and inoculator machines. The federation received the grant during a ceremony held at the main campus of the University of Antique, which was attended by Antique Representative Antonio Agapito Legarda.

Noli Valezuela, team leader of the Department of Social Welfare and Development - Sustainable Livelihood Program in Antique, participated alongside Legarda in disbursing the seed capital for the initiative. Legarda emphasized the broader impact of the project, stating, "With the 2025 National Women's Month Celebration, we reaffirm our collective vision to empower women, promote gender equality and ensure equitable access to resources and opportunities."
