Pasay city: The Rizal Memorial Tennis Center is almost ready for the staging of the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) 125 Philippine Open, set to take place from January 26 to 31. The qualifying round is scheduled on January 24 and 25.

According to Philippines News Agency, PSC chairman Patrick "Pato" Gregorio expressed satisfaction with the collaboration between the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) and the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA). Gregorio highlighted the PSC's role as a facilitator of events during a media briefing at Lanson Place in Pasay City, stating that the venue is undergoing significant transformation with the help of hundreds of workers, the City of Manila, and the Department of Public Works and Highways.

Gregorio emphasized the PSC's commitment to financially support projects that align with its vision, mentioning the decision to grant two of the four wild cards in the tournament to local talents Alexandra Eala and Tennielle Madis. Eala recently achieved a career-best No. 49 WTA ranking, while Madis was the country's top junior player last year.

PHILTA secretary general John Rey Tiangco noted the use of the courts for a qualifying tournament among top local players as an indicator of the venue's readiness. He expressed confidence that the partnership with the PSC would ensure timely completion of preparations. Tiangco, who is also the Navotas City mayor, stressed the event's importance for the development of Philippine tennis, revealing a three-year agreement with the WTA for a 125 tournament.

Joining Gregorio and Tiangco at the press conference were former Davis Cupper Roland So, managing director of Tecnifibre, and former top junior Kyle Dandan, business development head of Fila. PHILTA executive director Tonette Mendoza announced ticket prices, with the qualifying round priced at PHP200 each for free seating. Tickets from the first round to the quarterfinals will be PHP1,000, and tickets for singles semifinals and doubles finals will range from PHP1,500 to PHP2,000, which will also apply to the championship match.
