Rome: Rome-based Filipina gymnast Jasmine Althea Ramilo clinched the gold medal in the women's all-around final of rhythmic gymnastics in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games at Thammasat University's Rangsit Campus in Pathum Thani, Thailand.
According to Philippines News Agency, Ramilo expressed her excitement and pride after scoring 102.180 points. She thanked those who supported her, particularly her Italian coach, Claudia Mancinelli, and the Gymnastic Association of the Philippines President, Cynthia Carreon.
Mancinelli, who has coached Ramilo since she was seven years old, shared her pride in Ramilo's achievement. "I handled her at 7 years old, she's so young, I believe in her, I'm so proud of her after 10 years, she won a 1st gold medal in this International competition," Mancinelli stated in an interview with One Sport.
The 17-year-old gymnast from Santa Catalina outperformed Mikayla Angeline Yang of Singapore, who took the silver medal with 101.490 points. Joe Ee Ng of Malaysia and Piyada Peeramatukorn of Thailand shared the bronze with a score of 96.890.
In related news, the Philippine team also secured a bronze medal in the women's group final. Ramilo's victory marks her as the third Filipino gymnast to win gold in the ongoing biennial meet, following the successes of Aleah Finnegan and John Ivan Cruz.
