Romualdez: PH Enters Breakthrough Era of Growth

Manila: Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Wednesday announced that the Philippines is entering a 'breakthrough era' of sustained and inclusive growth under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s leadership.

According to Philippines News Agency, the statement was made following the World Bank's June 2025 Economic Update, which ranked the Philippines as the second-fastest growing economy in Southeast Asia. The country posted a solid 5.6 percent GDP growth in 2024, with strong projections extending through 2027. Only Vietnam surpassed the Philippines in the region.

Romualdez emphasized that the World Bank's forecast is a clear indication that the nation is not just recovering but is on an upward trajectory. He highlighted the importance of measuring this growth not only in economic terms but also in how it improves the lives of ordinary Filipinos.

He elaborated that this breakthrough era signifies more jobs for workers, higher incomes for small businesses, increased opportunities for students and youth, and a more comfortable life for every Filipino family. Romualdez attributed this progress to the administration's Bagong Pilipinas agenda and a reform-oriented Congress, which have laid the foundation through strategic policy reforms and investments in people.

The speaker pointed out that growth is not only rapid but equitable, emphasizing that Congress has enacted legislation to benefit ordinary Filipinos, not just the elite. Key legislative efforts include the Ease of Doing Business reforms to support MSMEs, substantial infrastructure funding to improve connectivity, and expanded support for farmers and rural enterprises. Additionally, digital transformation policies and laws on education, health care, and social protection aim to build long-term human capital.

Romualdez concluded by stating that the Philippines is entering a new phase characterized by confidence and capability, ready to compete and elevate the nation's standing on the global stage.
