Manila: Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Friday called on his fellow public officials to work harder for peace, unity, and inclusivity and serve with sincerity and compassion. In his Eid al-Adha message, the leader of the House of Representatives said the commemoration of one of the most sacred celebrations in Islam should serve as a reminder of 'the power of obedience to a higher calling, the importance of selflessness, and the strength found in unity.'
According to Philippines News Agency, Romualdez emphasized that the values celebrated during Eid al-Adha resonate across all faiths and cultures, emphasizing their universal nature in binding people regardless of belief or background. Eid al-Adha honors the profound faith and obedience of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who was willing to sacrifice his son in submission to God's command. People observe the occasion with prayers, feasts, and the tradition of sharing meat with family, friends, and those in need.
Romualdez highlighted that the story of Eid al-Adha speaks of sacrifice made out of trust and devotion, a message that remains relevant in today's world. He urged that it calls on everyone in government and society to serve with sincerity, to uphold justice, and to always act in the best interest of the people they represent.
He further expressed in Filipino that Eid al-Adha is a reminder of faith, principle, and sacrifice, hoping that commemorating the spirit of this feast will strengthen national unity.
As Speaker of the House, Romualdez reaffirmed the commitment of Congress to support policies that honor diversity and uphold religious freedoms. He stated that the nation's unity is strengthened by the respect shown for one another's traditions and expressions of faith.
He concluded by expressing hope that this celebration would inspire efforts towards peace, inclusivity, and a government attentive to every voice, including those often unheard. The lessons of this sacred day encourage actions taken with compassion, clarity, and courage.
