CEBU CITY – The province of Cebu must have its own Light Rail Transit (LRT) to facilitate easy travel of the people and address the worsening traffic situation, especially in the Metro Cebu area, former presidential spokesperson and senatorial aspirant Harry Roque said on Tuesday.

In a statement, he said Cebu needs a railway system that will connect the northern and southern corridors of the province.

“I-implement natin ‘yung mga infrastructure projects para maibsan narin ang lumalalang problema sa traffic (Let’s implement those infrastructure projects that would alleviate the worsening traffic problem),” Roque said.

The senatorial candidate who visited Cebu on Monday to join the UniTeam grand rally at the South Road Properties here said the province badly needs a mass transportation system that ensures faster mobility.

“Kinakailangan ng mass transportation sa Cebu, kinanakailangan nang ituloy ang LRT dito. Sa tingin ko, it’s the trains that we need. Makakatulong ito sa mga Cebuanos na makaiwas sa traffic at mapadali ang transportation system nila (Mass transportation is needed in Cebu, it is necessary to pursue the LRT here. I think it’s the trains that we need. This will help Cebuanos avoid traffic and facilitate faster transport system),” he said.

Roque, who is a former law professor, said aside from the railway system, he will also assure that more Cebuanos would have access to potable water.

“Lulutasin natin ang malaking problema sa Cebu which is lack to potable water. Malaking problema po ito ng Cebu. Kagaya po ng isinusulong natin na right to water at food bill, bibigyan po natin ng sapat na potable water ang probinsya (We will solve the big problem in Cebu which is lack of potable water. This is a big problem in Cebu. Just like the right to water and food bill we are promoting, we will give the province enough potable water),” he said. “We will work hard to make potable water for all Filipinos a reality by 2028.” (PNA)
