Russian Vlogger Tests Negative for HIV Amid Deportation Proceedings

Quezon city: Russian vlogger Nikita Chekhov has tested negative for HIV or the human immunodeficiency virus, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) said Friday. According to Philippines News Agency, BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado confirmed that the medical examination of Chekhov, conducted in coordination with the Department of Health (DOH), showed he was non-reactive for HIV. "He was likewise tested for other related illnesses, all of which yielded negative results," Viado stated. The 21-year-old vlogger was arrested in Quezon City after going viral for threatening to deliberately spread HIV while in the Philippines. The test results support the BI's suspicion that Chekhov's posts were meant to incite fear and gain online attention. Viado assured the public of the BI's ongoing efforts with other government agencies to address foreign nationals who violate Philippine laws and create public alarm. "He now faces deportation charges for undesirability, as his social media posts caused fear and panic among the pu blic," Viado added. In a related issue, Viado also addressed claims by blacklisted Russian national Vitaly Zdorovetskiy, who released a video criticizing conditions at the BI Warden Facility (BIWF). Zdorovetskiy claimed poor conditions and alleged the presence of pregnant women and children. Viado refuted these claims, labeling them as misleading. Viado disclosed an investigation into how Zdorovetskiy managed to record the video, revealing that raids conducted led to the confiscation of smuggled gadgets. "By November, personnel found to be remiss in their duties were identified and removed from their posts," he concluded.
