San Jose Del Monte Water Board Moves to Pre-Terminate PrimeWater

San Jose del Monte: The San Jose del Monte City Water District Board of Directors has formally moved to pre-terminate its joint venture agreement with Villar-owned PrimeWater Infrastructure Corporation (PWIC) amid the water crisis affecting thousands of city residents.

According to Philippines News Agency, in a letter to Mayor Arturo Robes dated April 10, 2025, San Jose Water Chairman Aurelio Jose Jr. disclosed that the Board had passed Board Resolution No. 15, Series of 2025 on April 3. This resolution directs the issuance of a notice of intent to pre-terminate the joint venture agreement with PrimeWater. The notice was issued to PWIC on April 7, 2025, and the matter has been referred to the Office of the Government Corporate Counsel for further action.

The decision by the water district is in line with its previous stance. In December 2024, the Board had also passed a resolution expressing no objection to several barangays' requests for a new water service provider due to PrimeWater's inability to adequately meet their water needs.

Residents of San Jose del Monte have been facing significant challenges due to low to zero water pressure, leading to disruptions in daily life, risks to public health, and increased financial burdens from purchasing water from private suppliers. The frustration among the community has been mounting as they struggle with the ongoing water crisis.

In response, Mayor Robes and the city government have implemented several emergency measures. These include deploying water lorries, establishing emergency water distribution hubs at strategic locations, coordinating with nearby local government units (LGUs) for water-sharing agreements, and using mobile water filtration units to ensure access to potable water.

Additionally, the City Health Office has intensified monitoring of sanitation risks in affected areas to prevent outbreaks of waterborne diseases, underscoring the urgent need for a reliable water supply solution.
