Manila: One of the country's clean energy providers, First Gen Corp., and Japan's multinational company Sanyo Denki Co. Ltd. have signed an agreement to supply the latter's facilities in the country with 100-percent renewable energy.
According to Philippines News Agency, First Gen announced that it will supply electricity sourced from its geothermal power plant in Negros Oriental to four of Sanyo Denki Philippines' factories located at the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Zambales. Sanyo Denki Philippines president and chief executive officer Hirokazu Takeuchi stated that the initiative aligns with the company's long-term goal to shift all production sites globally to renewable energy.
Takeuchi expressed satisfaction with the partnership, emphasizing that it is a significant step towards achieving their goal of using more renewable energy in production, in line with their commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. He also highlighted the company's obligation to provide customers with products produced using renewable energy.
In addition to the power supply, First Gen's sister company, Pi Energy Inc., will support Sanyo Denki in optimizing energy use and boosting efficiency. Carlo Vega, First Gen's chief engagement officer, noted the challenges of shifting a 24/7 operation to renewable energy and rationalizing power consumption for manufacturing firms. He expressed privilege in assisting Sanyo Denki towards a more sustainable future for their operations and looked forward to integrating more renewable energy and energy efficiency solutions into their facilities.
Sanyo Denki, which began its operations in the Philippines in 2000, produces a range of equipment, including uninterruptible power supply devices, photovoltaic inverters, servo motors and amplifiers, and cooling fans. The Philippines serves as its hub for Sanyo Denki DC cooling fans.
Currently, First Gen has 1,651 megawatts of installed renewable energy capacity from 28 solar, wind, hydro, and geothermal power plants.
