Sarmiento quits as PPCRV chair

MANILA Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) head Rene Sarmiento has resigned from his post.

I had resigned from PPCRV effective August 31, 2018 after my head surgery last April 1, 2018, Sarmiento said in an interview on Monday.

Tinapos ko lang ang barangay elections and other PPCRV matters. Time to slow down. I remain a friend of PPCRV, the former Commission on Elections (Comelec) official added.

In a separate interview, former PPCRV head Henrietta de Villa said the group's current vice chairman, Johnny Cardenas will serve as interim chairman.

Sarmiento was elected as PPCRV chairperson on August 15, 2016 and officially served the post since Nov. 1, 2016. His term is until Oct. 31, 2022.

PPCRV, the citizen's arm of the Comelec, is known for two tasks in service of the elections nationwide voters' education and the mobilization of volunteers to monitor the conduct of elections. (PNA)
