Sept. 11 Declared Special Non-Working Day in Ilocos Norte for Marcos Sr.’s 108th Birth Anniversary

Ilocos norte: Malaca±ang has declared Sept. 11, 2025, as a special non-working day in Ilocos Norte to commemorate the 108th birth anniversary of former president Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.

According to Philippines News Agency, Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin signed Proclamation No. 1010 on Sept. 3, with the aim of allowing the people of Ilocos Norte to fully participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration. Marcos Sr., who served as the 10th president of the Philippines, was born on Sept. 11, 1917, in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte. He is the father of the current President, Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

To mark his birth anniversary, the provincial government along with local government units and agencies in Ilocos Norte have organized a series of events across the province. A notable highlight is the "natnateng" cook-off in Batac City, showcasing local vegetable dishes and Ilocano cuisine. Medical equipment will also be distributed at the Imelda Cultural Center in Batac City.

Additionally, a thanksgiving Mass and wreath-laying ceremony will take place in Sarrat town and Batac, where two monuments of Marcos Sr. are located. On Sept. 12, a literary and arts competition featuring singing, speech choir, and graphic art will be held at Robinsons Mall in San Nicolas town, followed by a job fair offering approximately 1,300 job vacancies from local employers.

The celebrations will conclude with an evening concert on Sept. 13 at the Laoag City Centennial Arena, featuring a performance by the local pop-rock band Nobita.
