Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has officially declared September as 'Social Protection Month' to enhance public awareness regarding the significance of social protection.
According to Philippines News Agency, the proclamation, numbered 820, was signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on March 6 and made public recently. This directive instructs the Social Development Committee (SDC) - Sub-Committee on Social Protection (SCSP) to spearhead the annual observance of Social Protection Month.
The proclamation aims to increase awareness of social protection as a crucial development strategy for poverty reduction, equality, and social inclusion. It also emphasizes the role of social protection in ensuring the resilience, health, and well-being of all Filipinos amidst the evolving social and economic landscape.
The SDC-SCSP has been assigned the responsibility of identifying programs, activities, and projects for the annual celebration. In addition, all government offices are mandated to engage in and provide the necessary support and assistance to the SDC-SCSP.
Local government units and the private sector are encouraged to participate in the observance. Meanwhile, the Presidential Communications Office has been instructed to implement effective measures to inform and motivate the public to support the programs, activities, and projects associated with Social Protection Month.
