Tandag city: Local government units in Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur suspended classes and work Thursday as moderate to heavy rains from a shear line triggered flooding and landslides, officials reported.

According to Philippines News Agency, in Tandag City, Mayor Roxanne Pimentel issued an executive order suspending classes at all levels and work in public and private offices, alongside ordering preemptive evacuations. Mayor Pimentel emphasized the danger posed by the weather disturbances to life, property, mobility, school operations, and livelihood, especially in coastal, low-lying, flood-prone, and landslide-susceptible areas of the city.

The city's Emergency Operations Center has been activated under a blue alert status, directing barangay officials to monitor and prepare for emergencies. Evacuations are currently underway for residents living in coastal areas and near riverbanks.

In Bislig City, Mayor Florencio Garay also suspended classes as multiple barangays, including Bucto, Pamanlinan, Maharlika, Mone, Mangagoy, Comawas, and Tabon, experienced flooding. Furthermore, a landslide was reported in Barangay Tabon, escalating the need for immediate response and safety measures.

The towns of San Miguel, Cantilan, and Carrascal in Surigao del Sur followed suit by suspending classes. In Agusan del Sur, Governor Santiago Cane Jr. ordered the suspension of classes at all levels effective 1 p.m., following an advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration. However, work in government offices remained operational.

In response to the situation, the Department of Public Works and Highways in Caraga has announced the temporary closure of the Sibahay Bridge along the Surigao-Davao Coastal Road in Cortes, Surigao del Sur, to ensure the safety of motorists. Monitoring of major river systems continues across the affected local government units.
