Siargao: The local government unit of Pilar in Siargao Islands has announced the cancellation of this year's 16th International Game Fishing Tournament due to the ongoing energy crisis in the country. The tournament, a popular annual event attracting anglers from both the Philippines and overseas, was initially planned to take place from April 15 to 18.
According to Philippines News Agency, the decision to cancel the event was taken to address the current power supply issues and to ensure the safety, convenience, and adequate support services for all participants, organizers, and visitors. The LGU expressed their regrets in a statement released on Tuesday, apologizing for the inconvenience caused to anglers, guests, sponsors, and partners who had shown support for the tournament.
The statement also conveyed the LGU's appreciation for the understanding and continued support from all stakeholders. Additionally, the local government indicated that they are considering rescheduling or planning future activities once the energy situation improves.
