Bago city: Six persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released from the Negros Occidental District Jail-Male Dormitory in Bago City on Christmas Eve. Chief Insp. Juniven Rey Umadhay, spokesperson of Bureau of Jail Management and Penology-Negros Island Region (BJMP-NIR), confirmed in an interview that these individuals had completed their sentences, benefiting from the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law.

According to Philippines News Agency, the release occurred after demonstrating good conduct while incarcerated. Each PDL underwent a thorough evaluation and clearance process before being granted their freedom. The offenses of the released individuals included murder, reckless imprudence resulting in homicide, acts of lasciviousness, and homicide. One was convicted under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 for sale and possession of dangerous drugs, while another faced charges of grave threats and election-related violations.

Umadhay emphasized that the release signifies the BJMP's dedication to humane corrections and restorative justice, aligning with the themes of love, forgiveness, and hope during the Christmas season. He highlighted that this moment offers the released individuals a chance to mend relationships, regain dignity, and reintegrate into society as productive citizens.

From an institutional standpoint, the release aids in alleviating jail congestion, allowing the BJMP to enhance management of remaining PDLs and improve jail services, security, and welfare programs.
