Manila: UK-based air transport rating organization Skytrax has named AirAsia the "World's Best Low-Cost Airline" in the Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025. AirAsia co-founders Tony Fernandes and Datuk Kamarudin Meranun accepted the award at the Paris Air Show on Tuesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, Fernandes expressed that the award holds significant emotional value, reflecting on the airline's journey from flying 200,000 guests in its first year to approaching one billion guests this year. The recognition marks the 16th consecutive year that AirAsia has been honored by Skytrax.
Skytrax chief executive officer Edward Plaisted noted that AirAsia's success for a record sixteenth time highlights the airline's dedication to providing quality and affordable travel options in a competitive and fast-growing market for low-cost airlines. The Skytrax World Airline Awards 2025 online survey spanned from September 2024 to May 2025, garnering participation from over 100 customers across various nationalities.
The survey featured over 325 airlines, underscoring the stiff competition in the airline industry. AirAsia currently connects to more than 130 destinations from its hubs in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, and Cambodia.
In celebration of their 16th win, AirAsia Philippines is offering promotional fares starting at PHP116 for one-way base fare to select domestic and international destinations. The booking period extends from June 18 to July 3, for travel between July 2, 2025, and March 31, 2026. Additionally, AirAsia's Philippine branch is providing passengers with a 16 percent discount on 20 kg check-in baggage.
