Effective dialogue and impressive character portrayals were key to Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bukit Sawa’s triumph in the Terengganu state-level 2023 Rukun Negara Sketch Competition held here today.
The sketch titled "Rukun Negara Memacu Perpaduan Bangsa" (Rukun Negara Drives National Unity) performed by five Form Six students, Putera Nur Aiman Abdul Hadi; Aina Alia Sofea Mohamad Arifin; Nur Syakirah Jamal Mohamad; Siti Nurhadirah Hamdan and Muhammad Shahril Mohd Shukor, netted them the championship trophy, a RM2,000 cash prize, certificates of appreciation, and a plaque and qualifies the team to represent Terengganu in the national-level Rukun Negara Sketch Competition in October.
SMK Bukit Sawa Form Six Senior Assistant Teacher Nur Mizan Zakaria said the students had gained self-cofidence and a greater awareness of the Rukun Negara, which was often forgotten by youth, adding that their effort and hard work over the past three weeks paid off with this victory.
"Our students and teachers are thrilled as it's our first time participating, and we won the championship right away.
"We’ll use the prize money to prepare for a more outstanding National Level competition, InshaAllah,” she said when met after the prize-giving ceremony at the Marang Education Office.
Second place went to SMK Tengku Bariah, Kuala Terengganu, who won a RM1,500 cash prize, while SMK Ajil, Hulu Terengganu, came in third received a RM1,000 cash prize.
The competition is an annual programme organised by the Malaysian Information Department (JaPen) in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day celebrations.
It aims to foster patriotism and love for the country through theatrical activities to enhance the understanding and appreciation of the Rukun Negara.
