Sorsogon: The provincial government of Sorsogon is set to conduct another rollout of the PHP20-per-kg "Benteng Bigas Meron Na" program along with the Kadiwa ng Pangulo at the Sorsogon Provincial Capitol on July 29. This initiative is organized by the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist and will commence at 6 a.m.
According to Philippines News Agency, Salvador Mendoza, chief of the Sorsogon Provincial Information Office, stated that for the upcoming rollout, they expect 1,100 beneficiaries to avail of the Benteng Bigas. Beneficiaries who have previously registered are required to present one valid identification card, while new registrations on-site will also necessitate a valid ID for verification purposes.
Priority beneficiaries of the program include senior citizens, persons with disabilities, solo parents, Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries, minimum wage earners, and registered farmers and fisherfolk. Each individual is permitted to purchase up to 10 kg of rice per transaction and is encouraged to bring an eco bag for carrying purposes.
Furthermore, Mendoza highlighted that the Kadiwa ng Pangulo will feature agricultural products from local Sorsoganon farmers. This initiative is implemented in coordination with the Kadiwa ng Pangulo program, aiming to provide affordable rice and maintain a steady supply for different sectors through rice-selling activities conducted on the 15th and 30th of each month.
