Manila: The southwest monsoon, also known as "habagat," is expected to bring rainfall across Luzon and the Visayas, as reported by the national weather bureau on Friday. Scattered rains and thunderstorms are anticipated in regions such as Ilocos, Batanes, the Babuyan Islands, Abra, Benguet, and Zambales. According to Philippines News Agency, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that moderate to heavy rains in these areas could lead to flash floods or landslides. Additionally, the Visayas and the remaining parts of Luzon are predicted to experience isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. Mindanao is also forecasted to have isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms. PAGASA has also noted that moderate to strong winds and moderate to rough seas will be prevalent in extreme northern Luzon and the western section of Luzon. In other areas, winds will be light to moderate, accompanied by slight to moderate seas. The weather bureau has further indicated that a low-pressure area, located 1,160 kilometers east-northeast of extreme northern Luzon and outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, has a high likelihood of developing into a cyclone within the next 24 hours.
