Manila: Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Monday called for restraint and renewed diplomacy amid rising hostilities between Israel and Iran, warning that continued escalation threatens not only regional stability but also the safety of Filipino workers across the Middle East.
According to Philippines News Agency, Romualdez emphasized the importance of diplomatic solutions and highlighted the Philippines' commitment to peace. He noted that under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the protection of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) remains a top priority, especially as tensions escalate in the region.
Romualdez urged all involved parties to prioritize dialogue over conflict, expressing concern that further escalation would only exacerbate human suffering and destabilize the region. He called on the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) to enhance coordination with host governments and international partners, particularly in Lebanon, Israel, Jordan, and the Gulf states, where significant Filipino communities reside.
He assured that no Filipino should be left behind during a crisis and emphasized the House's solidarity with OFWs, pledging to work with executive agencies to ensure their welfare. Romualdez also advised Filipino communities abroad to remain calm, follow official advisories, and maintain communication with Philippine embassies and consulates.
Romualdez concluded by stressing the importance of unity and vigilance in facing uncertainty, reaffirming the commitment to the safety of Filipinos worldwide.
