Bacolod city: The leadership of House Speaker Faustino 'Bojie' Dy maintains "general" and "strong" support from House members, according to Bacolod City Rep. Albee Benitez. He addressed concerns about a potential coup within the chamber during the 2nd Bacolod Flood Mitigation Summit at the Sugarland Hotel.
According to Philippines News Agency, Benitez emphasized that Speaker Dy received endorsements from various regional blocs, including Mindanao, Luzon, Metro Manila, and the Visayas. These endorsements underscore the broad support for Dy, who assumed the role of House Speaker in September after the resignation of Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez.
Benitez, a signatory to a manifesto expressing support for Dy, was previously rumored as a potential replacement for Romualdez. However, he has made it clear that his priority is to support the current leadership. "The first thing is to rally behind our leader," Benitez stated, urging unity among House members and setting aside any disunity.
He further explained that ongoing corruption issues have compelled House members to stand by Dy, rather than backing any efforts to unseat him.
