MANILA-- Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Director General Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa on Tuesday disclosed that the reported NBI (National Bureau of Investigation)-cohort of SPO3 Ricky Sta. Isabel in the alleged kidnapping and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick Joo, is only a driver at the NBI and not an NBI agent.
The PNP chief made the disclosure in an ambush interview in Camp Crame, Quezon City on Tuesday afternoon.
Dela Rosa said his "source" at the NBI confirmed that alias "Jerry" was an NBI asset working as a driver of one of the directors at the Bureau.
The PNP chief added the director being referred to was not NBI Director Dante Gierran.
Dela Rosa said aside from alias "Jerry", they were also investigating another NBI civilian asset for possible involvement in the killing of the South Korean businessman.
He made assurances that the NBI is cooperating very closely with the PNP as both agencies are committed to solving the case at the soonest possible time.
Alias "Jerry" was the one allegedly ordered by Sta. Isabel to puncture the tires of the South Korean's vehicle to prevent him from escaping when the group abducted him.
The South Korean businessman was allegedly kidnapped in Angeles City, Pampanga and subsequently killed inside Camp Crame on Oct. 18, 2016. (PNA)
