SSS Legazpi Pursues Legal Action Against 11 Non-Compliant Employers

Legazpi: The Social Security System (SSS) Legazpi branch has issued a stern warning to 11 companies in Libon, Albay, urging them to fulfill their obligations to their employees. This action took place during the first Run Against Contribution Evaders (RACE) campaign, which was conducted on Friday.

According to Philippines News Agency, SSS Legazpi branch head Jogar Tosoc reported that 44 employees are currently unable to access essential SSS benefits, including maternity benefits, as well as salary and calamity loans. Tosoc explained that some employers have not registered their businesses, resulting in the non-reporting of employees, while others have failed to remit the required contributions.

During the RACE initiative, the branch visited a total of 11 businesses, which included three bakeries, one pharmacy, one construction supply store, one refilling station, four restaurants, and one poultry supply business. SSS Attorney III Arra Jolly Rotugal confirmed that show cause orders were served to these employers for their violations of SSS laws.

"In the show cause order, it was indicated that they need to comply with the demand of SSS due to the violation they committed. Upon receiving the show-cause order, they are given 15 days to comply. We want to clarify that receiving a show-cause order is not the same with pending case," Rotugal stated. Failure to comply within the 15-day period may result in the case being forwarded to the legal department.

From 2024 to January 2026, the SSS Legazpi branch conducted 26 RACE campaigns, visiting 202 employers and resolving issues for 1,016 employees. During this time, collections amounted to nearly PHP700,000.
