Manila: The Philippine Postal Corporation (PHLPost) has released special joint commemorative stamps to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India. In a news release on Wednesday, Postmaster General Maximo Sta. Maria III stated that the issuance of the stamps serves as a tribute to the strong bilateral relationship.
According to Philippines News Agency, the stamps were officially unveiled by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the President's five-day state visit to India from August 4 to 8. The visit was made upon the invitation of the Indian government and coincides with the milestone celebration of bilateral ties between the two nations.
The commemorative stamp features a logo specifically designed for the 75th anniversary, incorporating elements from both national flags and highlighting the national flowers of the Philippines and India-the sampaguita and the lotus. The design reflects the enduring friendship and shared values of the two countries.
The sampaguita, featured on the Philippine stamp, symbolizes purity, humility, and strength. It is a national symbol of resilience and cultural pride. Meanwhile, the lotus flower, featured on the Indian side, holds spiritual and cultural significance across multiple religions in India and symbolizes purity, beauty, and enlightenment.
Formal diplomatic relations between the Philippines and India were established in 1949, with a Treaty of Friendship signed in 1952. The commemorative stamps are now available to the public and may be purchased at designated PHLPost outlets, including the Postshop at the Manila Central Post Office Compound.
