Negros Occidental Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson is reminding students to be alert against both the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) and dengue as in-person classes in all public schools resumed on Monday.
“We want you back in school healthy and safe,” he said.
After two school years of online and modular learning, Lacson urged the students to bear in mind they are now under the “new normal” of their education.
“As such, you are expected to be more responsible than in the past since we are still in the course of a pandemic,” he added.
The Department of Education Division of Negros Occidental has yet to release the total number of enrollees for school year 2022-2023 as enrollment was still ongoing on Monday.
Last week, more than 271,000 learners or almost 81 percent of its target have already enrolled.
Lacson also commended the school administrators, teachers, and the non-teaching staff for going to great lengths of helping the students.
“You were the ones who refused to give up and demonstrated not just consistency of purpose but also creativity and innovation, driven by your passion to make sure that learning persists. You are greatly appreciated,” he said.
As of Aug. 21, Negros Occidental still has 216 active Covid-19 cases.
In Western Visayas, Negros Occidental has the highest number of dengue cases at 3,648 from January to Aug. 13, of which 218 are new cases recorded from Aug. 7 to 13 alone.
