KUCHING, Sarawak helped themselves to a fifth petanque gold medal when they won the men's triples event at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA). The home trio of Abdul Harith Oris, Aniq Ashraf Mohamad Hafizul and Farid Amirul Muhamad had no problem overcoming Kelantan's Mohamad Zulhaizzad Mohd Zin, Muhamad Atiq Daneal Azizi Aswariza and Wan Mohamad Farihin Wan Rosli 10-5 at the Sarawak State Petanque Court. Johor took the bronze with a 7-3 win over Melaka in the fight for third place. In the mixed trio team (two women, one man) event, Sabah's Maxivianna Robert, Muhammad Aeqhmal Mohammad Ardhy and Siti Nur Vivianah Chia stormed to a 10-7 win over the Sarawak trio of Ain Afzan Aisyah Ezlan, Akhtar Shauqi Aini Mohd Dom and Nur Durratul Shaira Yazit. Johor took bronze after defeating Negeri Sembilan 13-7. Negeri Sembilan edged Perak 3-2 for the bronze. Meanwhile, Penang won the mixed triples (two men and one woman) for their first gold medal in petanque today. Penang, represented by Muhammad Aidil Zakri Junaidi, Muhamad Safwan Alif Abdullah and Nur Erissya Najwa Mohd Helmey, defeated Pahang 13-5. Negeri Sembilan took bronze with a 9-6 win over Selangor.
